This week at Jr. High youth group we’re going to be tackling a very important idea in the Bible, that of “justification.”
We all know what it’s like to be guilty of something, but how do we clean the slate? How do we start over? Most importantly, how do we absolve our sin before God? The answer is actually pretty simple- we don’t.
We’re going to be talking about two ways that we try to ‘justify’ ourselves and how disappointing they are:
Hard Work- “If I work hard enough, I might be saved.
Good Behavior- “If I act holy, maybe I can become Holy.”
The good news is that we have been justified by Jesus! By God’s grace, and through our faith, we’ve been forgiven, and that’s good news!
We’ll read Ephesians 2:8-10, and discuss the following:
•Why do you think we want to justify ourselves?
•How come trying to justify ourselves doesn’t work?
•Why is sometimes hard to remember and trust that Jesus justifies us?
