Good evening! The readings for this coming Sunday are: Psalm 100; Ecclesiastes 1:2,12-14,2:18-26; Colossians 3:1-11; Luke 12:13-21. One of the themes here is work. Work is a common source of frustration for people. Too much work wears out the body. Too little work can drive the mind crazy! How pointless our work can seem if we never get a moment’s rest to enjoy the fruits of our labor. If we fret about work all the time, if we neglect other areas of life just to keep working, or if we expect our work to provide our ultimate happiness–then we have made it our god. Taking time to rest and enjoy life with family and friends isn’t just good for the body. It is good for the soul. God gave us the Sabbath in part to help us keep our priorities straight and not work ourselves to death – either physically or spiritually. All the treasure on earth cannot compare to the treasure that awaits us when we are called home to heaven. Have a great week in the Lord, and don’t forget to put your feet up on occasion!
